Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. -Proverbs 24:11

Cross-bearing for the Child-bearing
by Martha Avila, President and Rev. John Ensor

Our burden is heavy; joyously heavy! In the few months that Heartbeat of Miami (HOM) has been open, we have seen the number of women and couples coming into our first Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic (PHMC) reach a stunning level. In January HOM served 80 new women. In our first 7 months, we have served 452 women, performed 235 ultrasounds and seen our first 16 babies born. We have 28 more babies due in April alone.

This is more than we have the capacity to handle. We are struggling to build the kind of life-changing relationships we seek with each of these women. As more godly women volunteer our burden will be eased. Our part-time sonographer is working nearly full time now. We ask you again to support this work month to month; so that our resources rise as our opportunities skyrocket. Overall, these past months clearly show us the stunning POWER we have to end abortion. Truly God has given us, the Christian community, everything we need in Christ, neighborly love and a cross-bearing spirit to make abortion, like slavery, despised and rejected. Or as the Bible says, "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence" (2 Peter 1:3). Our burden is heavy; gloriously heavy.

"Joanna" came in a few weeks ago with her boyfriend, convinced that it was not the right time to have a baby. To verify that her positive pregnancy meant anything (after-all, miscarriage is a common possibility as well) we ordered a sonogram. The screen lit up with a beautiful intact set of identical twins! The boyfriend started crying like a baby himself. Joanna said, "There is no way I can end the lives of these babies." All of us started crying as we thanked God that one baby saved the other baby's life!"

Since we have this power, will you help us unleash it as we ought? Will you join us as cross-bearers for child-bearers? Pray earnestly for us. Pledge a modest but monthly gift. Pass this word along to your friends and church. Together we can demonstrate the life-saving, life-changing power of the Gospel of Life.

Our Strategic Plan Unfolds

This map, reflects the plague of abortion facilities on Miami. It also outlines the Heartbeat of Miami strategic plan. Bring the life-saving, death-defying power of neighborly love to bear on the most abortion-targeted neighborhoods of Miami: Hialeah, N. Dade and Little Havana. Now that Hialeah is open, we turn to N. Dade and are ready to establish an ultrasound-equipped, Christian supported and staffed, full-time, Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic.

We are currently in negotiations of a ready-made medical clinic on busy 7th Avenue. Local leaders have viewed the location and recommended it as a central point of visibility for this community.

"I'm excited to help establish a pregnancy help medical clinic in N. Dade. As a Black and Haitian pastor in this community, I know our babies are being destroyed; but I also know they can be saved as we work together as a Christian community to help frightened mothers and couples." - Rev. Eddie Gervais, pastor of Community Christian Church (and HOM Board member)

"The fact that African-American women suffer 36% of all abortions though we are only 12% of the female population is a call to action! For the last couple of years we have been helping pregnant mothers at our Church. But the opportunity to bring an ultrasound-equipped pregnancy help medical clinic to my neighborhood is a must. I am pledged to help!" -First Lady Esther Johnson, 93rd Street Baptist Church

HOM supporters, Jose Ortiz, Rev. Eddie Gervais, Joan Crown of the Respect Life office, Esther Johnson, Nancy Alphonso and HOM President, Martha Avila, gather to examine potential N. Dade site for our second Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic.

A stunning good start toward this effort was launched with a "Seed Gift" pledge of $60,000 to help Heartbeat of Miami open a PHMC in N. Dade. This gift of course must be matched by a few more major seed gifts to initially staff and equip the clinic and about 300 "Heart for Life" monthly partners if we are to sustain this effort at the level it takes to fulfill our mission to provide life-saving help in a life-changing way.

Can you sacrifice a $1 a day ($30/month)? We call these modest monthly supporters our "Heart for Life" monthly partners. Anyone, meaning, all of us, can do this one thing. I've made the pledge. Our staff and volunteers have made this pledge. Our Board members have made this pledge. And we ask you to make it with us. If you do, other major donors will step up as well. And together we will demonstrate the life-saving, life changing power of neighborly love. Thank you.

In order to help secure the broad support of the Christian community for this great work, we are hosting our First Fund Raising Banquet, Thursday, March 27th at the InterContinental West Miami Hotel in Doral, 6:45-9 PM.

Here is your opportunity to hear and see some of the women and couples whose lives have been changed of late and to introduce this great work to your family and friends. There are no costs to attend, nor tickets sold. But all guests must be registered. We are asking you to prayerfully use this occasion to introduce this ministry to others. For details, location and registration, visit heartbeatfmiami.org.
