Hialeah Clinic's One Year Anniversary
by Martha Avila, President

Heartbeat of Miami's Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic in Hialeah turned ONE YEAR OLD on July 9th, 2008! Our numbers have reached stunning levels. We served 890 women and 120 babies were born to our ministry. Many more babies are expected very soon. Most of these babies might have been aborted if we had not been there to "rescue those who are being taken away to death" (Proverbs 24:11).

"Indiana Jessie" Comes to Work for Heartbeat of Miami
by Martha Avila

Jessie joined our staff this spring in preparation for the opening of our second Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic in North Dade. Last month, she received a call from "Cary", a 19 year old who was being pressured by her boyfriend and his family to get an abortion. According to the boyfriend's father, a child would interfere with his son's future career and they wanted to eliminate the "burden" of a baby. Cary did not want an abortion but the pressure was on. Jessie encouraged her to come to our Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic for help. Cary saw her baby on the ultrasound screen and was amazed to see the little face completely formed looking back at her. She cried at the sight of her baby and said that no one was going to take her baby's life.

However, when Cary went back home, she had to face reality. By that time her boyfriend's father had spoken to her parents promising them his son would marry Cary, but only if she had an abortion. "They can always have more children later" he implied. Cary's parents took the advice and decided an abortion would be the best thing for their daughter.

Four days later, Jessie received another call from Cary. This time, she was calling from the abortion facility. Her parents took her there on a false pretence that they were going to see a doctor. Her boyfriend was also there. Crying, she called Jessie on her cell phone from the back room, "They are going to kill my baby. Please help me!" Our "Indiana Jessie" ran to her car and praying with Cary on the cell phone, rushed to the abortion facility. Cary ran out the back door, jumped into Jessie's car while the abortionist, the nurses, her parents and boyfriend, were still wondering what in the world was going on. Off Jessie and Cary went back to the little place of refuge, Heartbeat of Miami's Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic in Hialeah. Her family soon learned she was not going to submit to child-killing and that she was not alone. With courage and strength she called the boyfriend and told him to back off or she was going to report him and his father to the police.

Cary's courage and the quick actions of our "Indiana Jessie," caused everyone around Cary to consider and respect her view of the situation. Her relationship with her parents is now restored and they are supportive. A few days ago, they found out they will be grandparents to a baby girl.

Not many of us will have the opportunity to jump in a car and rescue a young mother from the hands of an abortionist. Yet all of us have been called to "rescue the weak and deliver them from the hand of the wicked" (Psalm 82:4). You can be the silent hero in our stories when you pray for us, pledge a monthly gift, and pass the word along to others asking them to join us in this effort.

Our Strategic Plan: Open Second Clinic

Most of you are familiar with the map that reflects the plague of over 37 abortion businesses in Miami-Dade County.

These abortion businesses have targeted the neediest neighborhoods in our city: Hialeah, North Dade, and Little Havana. Heartbeat of Miami's strategic plan is to bring the life-saving and death-defying power of neighborly love to these targeted neighborhoods.

Our Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic in Hialeah is working at full capacity. We are now seeing an average of 10 women a day in a small area of 1,000 sq ft. We offer free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds for verification of pregnancy to women with an unplanned pregnancy. The Lord does miracles with the ultrasound and through our counselors. Statistics show that 89% of the women that see their baby on the ultrasound screen choose life for their baby! Our Hialeah Clinic is also holding two parenting preparation classes a week for new moms.

Through God's grace (prompting generous donors), we have been able to lease the space for our second Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic in North Dade. This clinic is located at 12060 NW 7th Avenue. We received the keys to this clinic one year to the day of opening our first clinic. But to open it by the end of the month, to make it as beautiful as our clinic in Hialeah, and to keep it open with well trained staff and equipped with ultrasound, I need your help today.

"Well done, good and faithful servant!
You have been faithful with a few things;
I will put you in charge of many things.
Come and share your master's happiness!" Matthew 25:21

Please consider a donation for this clinic today. If you would like to get involved in helping me prepare the Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic in North Dade, please call our office at 305-863-2155. This new clinic is double the space (2,025 sq ft). We need furniture for a large lobby, three counseling rooms, one examining room, and one large class room. We need someone to lay the floor in the counseling rooms, someone to make kitchen cabinets and a counter in the reception area.

Remember these Pregnancy Help Medical Clinics are Christian supported and staffed! If you are already one of our monthly donors, thank you for being a cheerful giver and for all of your prayers. The seeds you have planted have given good fruit. If you are not a monthly donor, would you please pray for us and consider pledging a modest but monthly gift? With $1 per day ($30 per month) you can help us keep these clinics open. This is less than a cup of coffee a day. Please share Heartbeat of Miami with your family, friends and church. Together, we can rescue many young mothers and their unborn babies. If we unite in this effort, we will make abortion unnecessary, and help many people learn to trust in God.

Cross Bearer for the Child Bearer,

Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will be our Guest Speaker at an upcoming Heartbeat of Miami function, "Together We Can Help Save Lives." She will be sharing her compelling story of how she denied the civil rights of her own preborn child, and how through the grace of God she has experienced His mercy and came to see that the natural extension of the civil rights effort is the prolife movement.
