Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. -Proverbs 24:11

Heartbeat of Miami: Making Lists
by Rev. John Ensor

Happy New Year, dear friend! May God richly bless you. I am thrilled to enter the new year with the clarity of purpose that is the Heartbeat of Miami. Certainly it will require great sacrifice and faithfulness to open ultrasound equipped, pregnancy help clinics in Miami this year. The human trafficking that is ongoing in Miami's 37 abortion facilities will not yield to verbal condemnation. But they will yield to prayer-soaked strategic planning, faithful labor, sacrificial giving and the power of neighborly love. Resolve with me then, to approach the Heartbeat of Miami as a calling, one of the glorious works that God purposed long ago for 2007 and plans to accomplish through us. As Scripture says, "we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10).

We aim to open our first pregnancy help clinic in Hialeah around Mother's Day, and a second one in North Miami very soon after. Our Strategic Plan calls for a third clinic to open in Little Havana in 2008. But before I list out what we need to do, and enlist your help, let me give you a glimpse of what lies at the end of our labor. Take a look at these names and birthdays.

This is part of nearly 300 Boston-area newborns. Each of these babies will experience their first birthday in 2007 because the Christian community in the area provided life-saving help to their mothers in their most desperate hour. Local abortionists were ready, for a price, to solve their problems by killing their babies. But Christians, at their own personal cost, intervened. Marked by an infectious faith that says, "God will provide" they rescued these innocents, by helping their frightened mothers and fathers. Look carefully and you will see that one mother even named her baby, "Miracle."

At the end of all the work required to set up new pregnancy help clinics, (recruit help, organize work teams, prepare a facility, train staff and volunteers, establish a board, raise the resources, launch a marketing plan, etc.) there is a long list of names of precious babies to be saved from Miami. Our work will produce that list around this time in 2008.

Over the next 5 months we need to:

1. Find the right location in Hialeah and prepare the facilities. There are 7 abortion facilities in Hialeah. We need help to identify available medical office space and help in selecting the most strategic site. We will need carpenters, tile guys, electricians, painters, decorators, materials and furniture suppliers. Click here to offer your help.

2. Create the Heartbeat of Miami (HOM) Board of Directors, train an Executive Director, set up an operations office, and get policies and procedures in place. The governance and stewardship of Heartbeat of Miami will now become a local responsibility. We will build and train the Board for effective strategic planning and governance, prepare staff and volunteers to effectively serve women and couples struggling with an unexpected pregnancy. All staff will be hired from our volunteer pool. Click here for our Volunteer Application.

3. Form a medical services committee to prepare HOM clinics to provide pregnancy testing and ultrasound services. We need a doctor to serve as the HOM Medical Director, and nurse managers and/or ultrasound technicians to provide these services. We need to apply to Focus on the Family's "Option Ultrasound" program for machines. Contact us if you are a medical professional and willing to help.

4. Enlist the active support and participation of churches in and around Miami to support and staff these pregnancy help clinics, especially those in Hialeah/Miami Lakes region and throughout North Miami. Check out my speaking schedule and contact me about speaking at your church.

5. Sign up 300 monthly donors for each HOM pregnancy help clinic. These monthly "Life Partners" are essential in sustaining the clinics, month in and month out, once they open. Without such personal sacrifice our labor will be in vain. We are asking you to sacrifice $1 a day ($30 per month) to bring the HOM vision into reality. Please make this sacrifice with me! Sign-up to be a Life Partner today.

6. Pay for two $20,000 Yellow Page ads to be placed on PAGE ONE of the Miami North and South Yellow Pages. The books come out in May; just around Mother's Day, when we open. The hotline calls will come soon after. Then the Great and Glorious work of HOM begins; providing life-saving, life-changing help to women and couples in pregnancy distress. Contact me or donate online.

Working together and giving sacrificially, what a story we shall have to tell by the end of 2007! Answering the Call with you,

In this new section we will highlight various ways people are Answering the Call.

High School Kids Answer the Call

Young adults at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in Hialeah held a Baby Bottle Campaign for the Heartbeat of Miami project. They raised nearly $900. The Life Club within the school ran the event and the funds will go towards our start-up costs for opening our first pregnancy clinic in Hialeah. Thanks kids, for cherishing and defending innocent life!

The Baby Bottle Campaign is an opportunity to get the whole family involved in answering the call to "rescue the innocent" (Proverbs 24:11) and "helping the weak" (Psalm 84:2). Everyone in the church receives a baby bottle, collects their change in it over 4 weeks and returns it to their church or school. HOM volunteers collect the bottles, count the change and report back the totals.

Baby Bottle Campaigns are currently scheduled at these churches:

Blessed Trinity, Miami Springs
First Baptist, Miami Springs
First Presbyterian, Miami Springs
Our Lady of the Lakes, Miami Lakes
Palm Vista, Miami Lakes
San Lazaro Catholic Church, Hialeah
St. Benedict Catholic Church, Hialeah
St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Hialeah
Trinity Church
Vida Nueva, Miami Springs
To host the Baby Bottle Campaign at your Church, email or call Miryam at (305) 888-0981 or call the HOM office at (305) 863-2155.

Baptist Church in Orlando Answers the Call

The First Baptist Church of Windemere, right outside of Orlando, has sent a gift of $12,500 to help HOM open 3-5, fully staffed, ultrasound-equipped pregnancy clinics in the neediest neighborhoods of Miami. We praise God for this stunning investment into this Great Work. Special thanks to Ray Berryman for bringing HOM to the attention of his local church mission board.

Pregnancy Clinic in Clinton, Iowa Answers the Call

We received the following letter from the pregnancy help clinic in the small town of Clinton, Iowa.

Dear Heartbeat,

Here is a donation of $5,700 to be used toward the Miami project. Rev. John Ensor spoke at our banquet in October and we have designated a portion of our 2006 tithe to this project. All of us on the board of the Clinton Pregnancy Center were impressed with his presentation and our donors responded generously that night. John mentioned this project in his talk and we thought it was a good project to support and we also want to show our appreciation for his ministry to us here in Clinton.

Such gifts and letters leave our Development Committee stunned with joy. If out-of-state pregnancy clinics see the need and give, and churches outside of Miami-Dade see the need and give, and local Christian youth want to sacrifice to Answer the Call in Miami, then what can we expect God to stir up in our midst?
